SaleTrail ("we," "us," or "our") is operated by Offset Exchange LLC. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the SaleTrail mobile application and related services. By using SaleTrail, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information:
Location data. With your permission, we access your device's location to show nearby garage sales, estate sales, yard sales, and storage auctions, and to help you build optimized routes between sales. Location data is used only within the app and is not stored on our servers or shared with third parties for advertising purposes.
Sale listing information. When you post a sale, we collect the address, sale type, dates, description, item categories, contact preference, and any photos you upload. This information is stored and displayed publicly to other SaleTrail users so they can discover and attend your sale.
Account information. If you create an account, we may collect your name, email address, and profile preferences. This is used to personalize your experience and send optional notifications such as weekly digest emails.
Usage data. We collect standard app usage information such as which screens you visit, sales you save to your route, and features you use. This helps us improve the app.
2. User-Posted Sale Listings Are Public
Any sale listing you post through SaleTrail — including the sale address, title, description, item categories, photos, and contact preference — is visible to all SaleTrail users. Do not include sensitive personal information in your listing that you do not want to be publicly visible.
3. Photos
If you upload photos to a sale listing, those photos are associated with your listing and are visible to other users. We do not use your photos for advertising, model training, or any purpose other than displaying them within your listing. You retain ownership of any photos you upload. You may delete a listing (and its photos) at any time.
4. Third-Party Services
SaleTrail uses the following third-party services to deliver its features:
Mapping and geocoding — OpenStreetMap / Nominatim. When you post a sale, we send your street address to the Nominatim geocoding API (operated by the OpenStreetMap Foundation) to convert it to latitude/longitude coordinates for map placement. No account data is sent. Nominatim's privacy policy is available at osmfoundation.org.
Live listing data — Apify. When the "Live Sync" feature is enabled with an API key, SaleTrail queries the Apify data aggregation platform to retrieve publicly available sale listings from estate sale and garage sale listing websites. Only city and ZIP code are sent to Apify — no personal user data. Apify's privacy policy is available at apify.com.
AI-powered categorization — OpenAI. When live listing data is synced, sale listing titles and descriptions (which are already publicly available on the web) may be sent to OpenAI's API to automatically assign item categories. No personal user data, account information, or location data is included in these requests. OpenAI's privacy policy is available at openai.com.
App hosting — Replit. SaleTrail's backend services are hosted on Replit. Replit's privacy policy is available at replit.com.
5. Data Storage and Security
Sale listings and user data that you post are stored in our database. We use industry-standard security practices to protect your data. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Locally on your device, the SaleTrail app stores your saved route, favorites, and app preferences using AsyncStorage (the device's local storage). This data stays on your device and is not transmitted to our servers unless you actively post a listing.
6. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share information only as follows:
With third-party service providers listed in Section 4, solely to deliver app features.
If required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights and safety of SaleTrail, our users, or the public.
In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case users will be notified.
7. Children's Privacy
SaleTrail is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately.
8. Your Choices
Location access. You can revoke location permissions at any time in your device settings. The app will still work but map-based features will be limited.
Notifications. You can disable push notifications and email notifications in the app's Profile > Notifications settings.
Listing deletion. You can delete any sale listing you have posted at any time from the listing detail screen.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of SaleTrail after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
